How many crimes are recorded in Lancaster County?

If you live in any part of Pennsylvania, you might find it interesting to know how many people are arrested or charged with crimes in a given area. For some people, these types of statistics may make them feel more secure about living some places because they believe a crime rate is lower. For other people, it may give insights into the police action and even fairness of officers in a region.

The Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting System delivers information on a county-by-county basis as to the number of criminal offenses recorded. This is data that you might find interesting, especially if you or someone you know has been arrested for any reason. In 2016 in Lancaster County, it was offenses related to property that topped the charts with the most number of arrests. Nearly 12,000 people were charged with these types of offenses last year. It is not known how many of these might be misdemeanors.

Assault and alcohol were each involved in more than 2,600 arrests in the county followed by close to 1,600 arrests for drugs. Details as to how many of these drug arrests were related to prescription or illegal drugs were not provided. Sex-related crimes numbered over 760. Arson and homicide charges were least common in the county with 46 and 11 arrests, respectively.

This information is not intended to provide legal advice but is instead meant to give Pennyslvania residents an idea of how many criminal arrests for different types of offenses were recorded in some parts of the state last year.
